The bug seems related to: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-2611

Changing a graphe Ymax setting, as item, in templates, fails. Changing manually the ymax_itemid field works well, but the web interface refuses, complaining the value is not an integer.

It was in fact this bug: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-4464
which is fixed upstream and should be in a release soon.
